Saturday 21st Feb. – walk **** sunny periods

After working 4 days last week and having another cold :( it was nice to have a bit of a lay in :) With the sun out it was too nice a day to waste so we headed up the town to see if I had a pic in the local paper before heading down to the Fludgers and then we walked to the old windsurfing hut collecting a little coal on the way watching the high spring tide which was nearly up to the prom! We spotted several Turn Stones too looking for lunch and paddling :) Mag suggested we splash out on some chips for dinner- we added two sausages and loads of salt and vinegar – we know how to live!!! We then had twenty minutes playing Tipping Point in Mannings Arcade wasting a couple of quid but it was good fun and Mag won our afters a small pack of refreshers which we ate walking through Langer Park. It was then home for a cuppa and to fall asleep in front of the fire – must be my age.

Sunday 22nd Feb. – bike *** cloudy and windy

I saw on Facebook at the high tides were pushing large numbers of birds onto the lakes on the reserve at Trimley Marshes so it seemed like a good place to head to on our bikes, so with high water between one and two and strong winds and rain coming late afternoon we planned to leave at about eleven. So we could relax a little and read our books, then do our exercises, I then cut some wood for our fire while Mag packed a picnic. By the time we got the bikes out of the garage it had clouded over and the wind had picked up! For a change we headed first to The Grove which was pretty with yet more snowdrops :)but muddy and then out onto Gulpher Road, along the farm track to Trimley and onto Levington via Grimston Lane. Again there were loads of geese on Loompit Lake, The tide was high in the river and there was a good wind blowing down the river and it looked really good for windsurfing !!! but when you wake to ice on the car it put you off going. We then biked around the sea wall – well muddy again to the Winter Flood bird hide where we met a member of the Suffolk wild life trust with a scope who was pointing all sorts out :) We saw Snipe,Marsh Harriers,Shovelers,Teal,Shell ducks,Wigeon's,Ringed Plovers,Lapwings,Peregrins,Egretts,Kestrel,Dunlins,Pintails,Skylarks,Redsha nks and a deer that was nearly white !!! so a top day for wildlife :) We had our picnic in the hide but were getting cold so set off for home for a nice hot cuppa. We just managed to get the bikes cleaned before the rain and really strong winds arrived !
